OVERVIEW: Want to take your rope climbing to the next level? This class is for climbers who want to take the lead. Led climbing is an advanced topic and requires focus and practice. Led by instructors with a Climbing Wall Instructor certification from the Climbing Wall Association, climbers who take this class will learn proper techniques required to pass the Crux Climbing Center lead test. Completing the class cannot guarantee the ability to pass the test, as some climbers will need additional practice. Clipping practice is encouraged before taking the class. Participants must be Crux top rope belay certified, 18 or older, and able to red point 5.10 on top rope. All climbers under the age of 18 years old can learn how to lead climb through a private lesson.
Minimum class size: 2 people. Maximum class size: 4 people. If you are the only one signed up for the class, the class will need to be rescheduled. YOU MAY NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITHIN A WEEK OF TAKING THE TOP ROPE CLASS.
LENGTH: This class will often last 3+ hours and will require the climber to pass a test at the end of the instruction in order to complete the orientation. We ask that climbers wait at least 1 day before taking the final lead test in order to prove that they have retained all of the information that they were taught.

- Learn Proper clipping techniques (and how to recognize improper clips)
- Lead belay including dynamic and adaptive belay techniques
- Understand fall factors

We realize that sometimes life happens and you may not be able to make your climbing class.
*Classes that are canceled or rescheduled on the day of the event will not be issued a refund. Participants will need to repurchase the class if rescheduling on the day of the event.

2nd Try Policy
We require that all sport climbers be certified before climbing in the Rope Canyon on ropes. You get certified in either Top Rope, Lead Climbing, or Lead Belay. The skills test administered by our staff is free for the first try. If you do not pass, all other attempts will be $9.
